Decorations For A Festive Kitchen

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to Christmas time, I seem to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, between making gifts, treats for the season and of course, Christmas day itself. A huge part of entertainment and time together for me involves the pleasure of sitting around a table, enjoying good food – it’s a very social experience and a lot of the love I put into Christmas time is done in the kitchen.

For that reason, I think it’s a great idea to decorate the kitchen a little too, bringing some festive cheer into the space. If you have a beautiful kitchen design, then that’s not a big problem, but if you have a dinky little galley kitchen like me you need to be creative, so here are some ideas that you should be able to do even in the most restricted kitchen space.

Window Decorations

Assuming your kitchen has a window, or walls, you can hang pretty wreaths, or stick wall decals up. These take up next to no room, and bring immediate festive cheer.

Bring the outside inside

If you have cups, mugs, pots or food stuff ‘on display’ in your kitchen, why not bring some winter foilage inside. Just a few sprigs of cinnamon, a couple of twigs from the Christmas tree, or a well placed berry or two, and your kitchen can immediately match the rest of the house. Homemade hot cocoa with a cute compact station with jars and a crate / FunkyJunkInteriors.net

Misteltoe

Unless you live in a very strange house, you’ll have either a light or a door (or both) in the kitchen. Hang some mistletoe and make sure you grab a kiss whenever anyone comes into the kitchen. This is probably also a good way to keep unwanted relatives out of the kitchen 😉

Lighting

Fill empty jars, vases or glasses with lights. Ideally get some of the battery operated variety, so that you don’t have to worry about running cables.

Something for the kids

We did this to our front door one year. The postman loved it. I think it’s really cute to do it to the fridge too! Again, if no one else, at least the kids will love it and it can’t but fill you with smiles.

If you’re going to be spending hours in the kitchen, you may as well enjoy some of the festivities too!
